CHALLENGE
The Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists program provides unrestricted funds to artists whose work is dedicated to movement and social practice. Dance/USA’s team needed an outside eye to strategize program communications (internal and external), support Fellows with PR and communications resources, and maintain the program’s established ethics and values within all mar/comms efforts.
WORK
My work with DFA has encompassed three program rounds since 2019. I serve as a thought partner for all things marketing/communications/PR, from planning to application process to Fellow announcement to the full cohort year. I support Dance/USA staff with mar/comm material strategy, timeline, and creation, and serve as publicist for the program, pitching stories focused on the Fellows and their work, as well as the program itself.
RESULTS
Through this collaboration, I have become a truly integrated member of the DFA team. Over the years, we have enhanced visibility and awareness of the program itself, but most importantly we have uplifted the work of the Artist Fellows in ways that are collaborative, artist-led, resourced, and aligned with the equity-focused values of the DFA program.

Selected Press
“Mariclare deeply understands how today’s independent artists operate and the importance of centering their voices, with care, in designing communications strategies. Over the years, Mariclare has become an integral part of the Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists program as our PR and communications consultant and a thought partner. I would recommend her to any institution that wants to work intentionally with artists.”
