CLIENT

The National Center for Choreography-Akron (NCCAkron)

CHALLENGE

NCCAkron approached me seeking to elevate their institutional storytelling. NCCAkron is a hub for development and research in the dance field, not a presenting organization with performances to promote or tickets to sell.  We created strategy around press efforts and storytelling to support their incredibly important, but often less visible, programming.

WORK

I serve as NCCAkron’s year-round publicist and communications advisor. We meet bimonthly to discuss visiting artists, residencies, research, and public events, as well as their signature programming like the Creative Administration Research program. I support writing, pitching, artist and staff interview preparation, photo + video planning, and larger big-picture strategy, as it pertains to communications efforts.

RESULTS

Since 2020, I have secured press coverage for NCCAkron, shining a light on numerous artists, programs, and achievements including the Mellon-funded Creative Administration Research program, launch of the Knight Choreography Prize, and Artists on Creative Administration book launch and tour. Press results range from national coverage in The New York Times, Dance Magazine, and GIA Reader to regional coverage in the Akron Beacon Journal, Ideastream, and WKYC.

Selected Press

Mariclare’s significant experience and passion for telling arts stories as well as her mental flexibility to stretch and help us identify, ‘what do we have to say when we aren’t promoting performances?’ makes her a creative thought partner and a valued contributor to NCCAkron’s team.
